Babywearing Benefits for Parents

New parents all experience the exhaustion and frustration in front of a crying baby. She has been fed, burped, changed, rocked, sung to- so what can possibly be done now? She could be uncomfortable because of gas, colic or reflux. Baby could be feeling anxious, overtired, struggling to fall asleep...

That's where babywearing comes to the rescue!

Pop the baby in a baby carrier and get on with your day. Go out for a walk, go shopping, straighten up your house, meet up with friends. It's amazing what you learn to do with a baby in a sling. Most babies settle within minutes in a baby carrier as it comforts them and brings memories of the womb.

Baby slings save time and frustration of trying to get babies to sleep (1), they can just doze off when they're tired. You are no longer bound at home by the pattern of your baby's naps. She can follow her natural rhythm and sleep wherever you are, whatever you're doing. With your little one snuggled up in the baby sling, your hands are free and you can do pretty much anything.

Babywearing has been scientifically proven to increase attachment between the parent and baby (2). The parent learns to recognize the baby's body language and facial expression much earlier and respond to them before baby starts crying. Babywearing is also ideal for working mothers who might not be able to spend as much time with their babies as they would like.

Babywearing is a beautiful gift from a father to his baby. Baby can hear his father's voice, the first voice she heard in the womb. Cuddled in the baby sling, she learns to recognize her daddy's breathing, scent and walking pace. She will soon find it comforting and soothing. It is also true for grandparents, aunts and uncles; this is the start of strong family relationships. While they have this special time together, mommy can have a rest.

Older siblings can feel annoyed or even jealous with the new baby. Once the little one is tucked up in the baby carrier, mom has more time to play, read books and look after them. Mommy can even breastfeed the baby with both hands free without anyone noticing. It's not just in the house that a baby carrier allows you to breastfeed discreetly, it's any time and everywhere.

Using a baby carrier may also helps moms suffering from Post Partum Depression (PPD). PPD can make it difficult to interact with the baby. Keeping her in close physical contact may give baby the reassurance she needs and that mom may not be able to give her otherwise. It also increases bonding, which is proven to help lessen symptoms of PPD. Always get in touch with your doctor if you are worried post partum depression.

You hear over and over:baby grows up so fast, enjoy it” and it's true, you close your eyes for what feels like an instant and suddenly, they're walking, talking, starting school. Babywearing is the best way we know to enjoy every minute of those baby and toddler years!
